Universal A 1000

The Universal A 1000 was a motorcycle team from the Swiss manufacturer Universal in Oberrieden , which was built for military use from 1943 to 1946.

Technology and dissemination

While the manufacturer Universal, founded in 1928, used JAP built -in motors in its first models , from 1936 its own side-controlled motors with 680 and 986 cc displacement were developed. The Universal A 1000 was designed for the needs of the Swiss Army.

The team had a side-controlled two - cylinder 50-degree V-engine with 986 cm³ displacement (bore / stroke: 86 × 85 mm), which made 25  hp , and a manual four-speed gearbox. The rear wheel was driven by a chain. With the longest translation, a top speed of 93 km / h should have been possible. The front wheel was guided with a trapezoidal fork , the rear wheel was suspended undamped in the rigid frame, while the sidecar attached to the left was cushioned by two coil springs. The curb weight is specified as 454 kg, the payload as 300 kg. Three drum brakes, each with a diameter of 200 mm, were operated at the front and on the sidecar via a cable and at the rear via a linkage. With a consumption of 7 liters per 100 km, a range of 300 km should have been possible. 200 copies of the Universal A 1000 are said to have been built.
