The Universal Shipping Services GmbH , with 1.1 million active customers and 98 percent brand awareness of the largest shippers in Austria and sells both a broad fashion range and a wide range of "hard goods" - household articles on home furnishings through to toys and consumer electronics. The company's headquarters are in Salzburg. Universal Versand GmbH belongs to the Otto Group , the second largest online retailer in the world after Amazon, and is present in Austria under the management of UNITO Versand & Dienstleistungen GmbH.
history
Universal Versand GmbH was founded in 1957 as a subsidiary of " Photo Porst ", a German provider of optical and photo articles. In 1968 the company was taken over by the British retail and mail order company " Great Universal Stores ". This was followed by the expansion of the product range to include a large mail order company. In 1997, Universal Versand went online for the first time, and in 1999 the entire range of fashion was presented to customers online. In 2001 the partnership with " Baur Versand Deutschland " was sealed. The website was redesigned in 2001, 2004 and 2010. In 2011, the new Universal Mobile Shop was launched with new, innovative ordering options for smartphone users. Around 55 percent of total sales are now generated through Internet purchases.

Universal Versand GmbH uses all sales channels, including new media. The range of the mail-order company includes over a million products, and the company offers a 24-hour delivery service, a free 3-year guarantee and an in-house call center based in Austria with a 24-hour advice hotline. Universal is represented in the professional association of the federal body for mail order and department stores, the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and the trade association. The company is committed to numerous social and environmental projects.
