Germany at the Universiade 2009

At the Winter Universiade 2009 in Harbin in February 2009 , 22 athletes took part, including 14 national team athletes. The German students competed in speed skating, figure skating, ice dancing, Nordic combined, biathlon, ski jumping, ski cross and snowboarding. The adh delegation was accompanied by a 17-person team of supervisors, which included medical staff, trainers, service staff and referees as well as the delegation leaders Nico Sperle (adh CEO) and Roland Joachim (adh CFO). In addition, six German team members were represented in Harbin as representatives of the FISU World Federation. With one gold, two silver and three bronze medals, the German team came 14th in the national ranking. Steffen Tepel ( University of Konstanz ) got the only victory in the Nordic combined. Silver went to Andreas Tischendorf ( University of Applied Sciences Ansbach ) in ski cross and bronze to Franziska Hildebrand (University of Applied Sciences Ansbach) in biathlon.

114 German athletes who were nominated by the General German University Sports Association (ADH) took part in the Summer Universiade 2009 from July 1st to 12th, 2009 in Belgrade . They were represented in eleven of a total of 15 sports. These included: basketball (men), fencing, soccer (women), judo, athletics, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball (men) and diving. 78% of the athletes reach places one to twelve. With three gold, three silver and eleven bronze medals, the athletes achieved eleventh place in the international ranking.
