Universidad de la República (building)
The Universidad de la República is a building in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .
The building, which was built as a result of a competition held in 1906 for its construction and inaugurated on January 22, 1911, is located in the Barrio Cordón on Avenida 18 de Julio 1824 and on Edouardo Acevedo , Guayabo and Pje streets. Emilio Frugoni . Juan María Aubriot and Silvio Geranio were responsible as architects . The building is the main building of the Facultad de Derecho and also houses the headquarters and the rectorate of the Universidad de la República (UdelaR). The architecture of the building shows influences from the Renaissance .
Since 1975 the building has been classified as the Monumento Histórico Nacional .
