Christian-Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode

Christian-Ernst Hermann Prince of Stolberg-Wernigerode (born September 8, 1864 in Wernigerode ; † August 3, 1940 in Schierke ) was a German nobleman , 2nd Prince of Stolberg-Wernigerode and head of the House of Stolberg.

Life

Christian zu Stolberg-Wernigerode was a son of Prince Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode (1837-1896) and his wife Princess Anna Reuss zu Köstritz (1837-1907). He studied law in Göttingen, Geneva and Leipzig. In Göttingen he became a corps bow bearer of the Saxonia . In autumn 1886 he joined the Prussian army. In 1890/91 he was assigned to the embassy in Vienna and then served à la suite of the army. He worked for the government in Kassel until he took over the state authority in Wernigerode. In 1896 he inherited his father's property, which he managed until 1929. Then he retired to Schierke in the Harz Mountains. Christian zu Stolberg-Wernigerode was hereditary member of the Prussian manor house and the first chamber of the Hessian estates from 1897 to 1918 . As President of the General German Hunting Protection Association, the forerunner of today's German Hunting Association , Christian zu Stolberg-Wernigerode had been the patron of the Wernigeroder Hunting Corps Senior Citizens' Convention and honorary member of the Masovia Hunting Corps in Berlin , as well as all the hunting corps organized therein.

Prince Christian-Ernst married Countess Marie zu Castell-Rüdenhausen on October 8, 1891 in Rüdenhausen (born March 6, 1864 in Rüdenhausen; † February 14, 1942 in Wernigerode ). From her marriage to Christian, Marie had the following children:

  • Botho (December 10, 1893 - September 3, 1989)

  • Walpurgis (May 1, 1895 - February 23, 1901)
