The Gifu University ( Jap. 岐阜大学 , Gifu daigaku ) is a state university in Japan . The campus is located in Yanagido, Gifu , Gifu Prefecture .
history
The university was founded in 1949 through the merger of three state schools:
- the agricultural and forestry school Gifu ( 岐阜 農林 専 門 学校 , Gifu nōrin semmon gakkō in Kakamigahara , founded 1923),
- the normal school Gifu ( 岐阜 師範学校 , Gifu shihan gakkō , founded 1873), and
- the normal youth school Gifu ( 岐阜 青年 師範学校 , Gifu his shihan gakkō in Tarui , founded in 1922).
The university opened with two faculties: Liberal Arts and Agricultural Sciences. She founded the Faculties of Engineering (1952) and Medicine (1964) by merging the former Gifu Prefectural University ( 岐阜 県 立 大学 , Gifu-kenritsu daigaku . Its last name was the Gifu Prefectural Medical School (( 県 立 医科大学 , Gifu-kenritsu ika daigaku )).
In 1981, the Yanagido campus opened, and faculties (excluding medicine) moved to the campus. Finally in 2004 the medical faculty and the hospital moved to Yanagido; the older hospital was from 1876 to 2004 in Tsukasamachi in the center of Gifu.
