The University of Miyazaki ( Japanese 宮 崎 大学 , Miyazaki daigaku , English University of Miyazaki , short: Miyadai ( 宮 大 ) or UOM ) is a state university in Japan . The main campus is located in Miyazaki in Miyazaki Prefecture .

history

The (older) Miyazaki University (English Miyazaki University ) was founded in 1949 through the merger of the following schools:

  • the Miyazaki School of Agriculture and Forestry ( 宮 崎 農林 専 門 学校 , Miyazaki nōrin semmon gakkō , founded in 1924),
  • the normal school Miyazaki ( 宮 崎 師範学校 , Miyazaki shihan gakkō , founded 1884),
  • the youth normal school Miyazaki ( 宮 崎 青年 師範学校 , Miyazaki his shihan gakkō , founded in 1922), and
  • the Miyazaki Prefectural Technical Center ( 宮 崎 県 工業 専 門 学校 , Miyazaki-ken kōgyō semmon gakkō , founded in 1944).

The university opened with three faculties: Agricultural Science, Liberal Arts and Engineering. The Faculty of Liberal Arts was renamed the Faculty of Education in 1966, and then changed to the Faculty of Education and Cultural Studies in 1999. In 1984 the current Kibana campus was reopened, and over the years the faculties moved to the campus. The former campus of the Faculty of Agriculture is now the Prefectural Cultural Park with a museum and library ( 宮 崎 県 総 合 文化 公園 , 31 ° 56 ′ 2 ″  N , 131 ° 25 ′ 7,6 ″  E ), and in the former campus of the Pedagogical Faculty ( until 1988) is the Miyazaki Municipal University ( 宮 崎 公立 大学 , Miyazaki kōritsu daigaku , founded in 1993).

In 2003, the (older) Miyazaki University was merged with the Miyazaki Medical University ( 宮 崎 医科大学 , Miyazaki ika daigaku , founded in 1974) to form the new Miyazaki University.
