history

The company's history goes back to the early 19th century with the establishment of a previous bookstore in 1805 by Jacob Christian Benjamin Mohr (1778–1854) and Johann Georg Zimmer (1777–1853). With the permission of the Academic Council of Heidelberg University , the bookstore operated under the name “Academic Bookstore Mohr & Zimmer” until 1815. During this time, the publishing program was characterized by the publication of works from the so-called Heidelberg Romanticism , such as the first editions by Achim von Arnim's work Des Knaben Wunderhorn . With the departure of the partner Zimmer, Christian Friedrich Winter (1773-1858) took his place in the publishing business as a partner under the name “Academic Bookstore Mohr & Winter”. Mohr and Winter separated again in 1822. Winter continued to run his business on his own, so that the company remained family-run for the 170 years that followed until 1992. Mohr continued his own publishing business (see also Mohr Siebeck Verlag ).

The managing directors are Andreas Barth and Theo Schuster.
