(5105) Westerhout is an asteroid of the main belt , which on October 4, 1986 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Dutch astronomer Gart Westerhout (1927-2012), who specialized as a radio astronomer on radio sources in the Milky Way and who established the now standardized galactic coordinate system .
