The National University of Malaysia (Mal. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia , English National University of Malaysia ) (UKM) in Bangi, Selangor state , is a state university in Malaysia . It was founded in 1970 and is now a research university with over 20,000 students. The university's motto is Ilmu Memimpin (Knowledge guides). The Malay language is used as the language of instruction .

history

There were preliminary considerations for a separate national university in Malaysia at the beginning of the 20th century. After independence in 1957, the discussion about a university with Malay as the language of instruction flared up again. Therefore, in 1970 the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was founded with the three faculties for science, art and Islamic sciences.

organization

The university management consists of the chancellor, several procurators , the rector ( vice-chancellor ), the treasurer and the head of the registry. The Chancellor and the three Pro-Chancellors are honorary positions and are occupied by well-known personalities, while the full-time management of the university is headed by the Rector. The entire university management is supervised by a board of directors.
