The Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) in the Malaysian city of Kuala Terengganu in the state of Terengganu is a state university founded in 1979 with a focus on oceanography and marine technology .

history

1979 was the Fishery and Marine Science Center of Universiti Putra Malaysia established. In 1996, the center became an outside campus of the university and the Faculty of Fishery and Marine Science moved from Serdang to near Kuala Terengganu . The campus was named Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu and the faculty was renamed Faculty of Applied Science and Technology . The Faculty of Science and Professional Arts was also founded on campus . In May 1999 the faculties were merged under Kolej Universiti Terengganu (KUT) and received the status of an associated university of Putra University Malaysia . In 2001 the university became independent, was given the status of a “University College” and was renamed Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM). With the receipt of the status of a university on February 1, 2007, the university received its current name.

The university management consists of the chancellor , a pro-chancellor , the vice-chancellor and several deputy vice-chancellors . The chancellor and the pro-chancellor are honorary positions and are filled by well-known personalities, while the full-time management of the university is headed by the vice-chancellor . The entire university management is supervised by a board of directors
