The University Oval is a cricket ground in Logan Park in Dunedin , New Zealand . The cricket field is located on the campus of the University of Otago , which was named after the cricket field. Logan Park was built between 1913 and 1920 and, in addition to cricket, also serves as a training and venue for football and rugby matches. The stadium is the venue for international test matches and one-day internationals .
Capacity & Infrastructure
The oval is not a classic cricket stadium. It only has a large grand stand with seats. Otherwise the cricket field is only bordered by grassy areas. This invites many students and families to watch and picnic. The stadium has a regular capacity of 3,500 seats, which can be increased to 6,000 with temporary expansions. The two ends are called Northern End and Southern End .
International cricket
International cricket took place in the University Oval only after the previous test cricket stadium in Dunedin, Carisbrook was slated for demolition. The first Test of New Zealand was held at this point in January 2008 against the national cricket team of Bangladesh . ODIs have also been held here since 2010, the first also against Bangladesh. At the Cricket World Cup 2015 , three preliminary round matches were played here.
