The University of Puget Sound ( UPS ), founded in 1888, is a private university in North Tacoma , in the American state of Washington near Puget Sound . It is one of the Liberal Arts Colleges . The UPS motto is pros ta akra ( ancient Greek προς τα άκρα ).

There are currently 2,785 students enrolled at UPS; these are looked after by 219 employees (results in 1 employee for 11 students). The 13th University President has been Ronald R. Thomas since July 16, 2003.

Over 1200 courses are offered. In addition to many bachelor's degree programs (e.g. art and natural sciences), master’s degrees are also possible.

The university's sports teams are called “Loggers” and the mascot is “Grizz the Logger”. 98% of the students live on the 39.25 hectare campus , which is located in a residential area.
