Impartial criticism

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Impartial criticism is a polka mazurka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 442). The work was performed for the first time on February 22, 1892 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

Remarks

The polka was written for the carnival ball of the Concordia journalists' association in 1892 and was premiered on this occasion. With the naming, Johann Strauss protested in his own way against the journalists and their, in his opinion, unfair and exaggerated criticism of his opera Ritter Pásmán . But these peaks bounced off the press. In terms of criticism, Strauss once again raised the issue of the print edition. On the cover the drawing of Justitia (blindfolded) could be seen. That then caused a bit of a stir in specialist circles. But it did nothing to change the failure of the opera in question. This polka was well received by the audience, at least musically.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 14 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
