UnrealEd

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Unreal Editor , shortly UnrealEd or UED is the official map editor for creating and editing content for the Games Unreal Engine . There are different outputs from the map editor, depending on the version of the underlying Unreal Engine . It is included in many games based on this engine, the best-known representatives of which are the first-person shooters of the Unreal series . The editor allows you to create your own maps. The UnrealEd is particularly useful for the fan base of the multiplayer mode of the games, as the extensive and still relatively easy to use editor enables the development of new maps.

The UnrealEd is based on the Unreal Engine , which enables it to be implemented directly in the game. This ensures that the self-created levels are accepted by the game and that the so-called shader effects , the light and shadow calculation effects , work correctly and are compared with the in-game settings set by the player.

By delivering the editor with the game, a number of ideas for modifying the game have been put into practice. Well-known modifications of the Unreal Engine such as Tactical Ops for Unreal Tournament or the Red Orchestra Mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 have emerged over time.

Creating levels is similar to working with a 3D program; a perspective view and three two-dimensional views are possible. The perspective view can also be switched to other display modes such as "Wireframe" (wire frame model), "Untextured", etc.

Because of the use of MFC , UnrealEd was previously only available for Windows . Version 4 will also be ported to Linux and macOS , which is why MFC has switched to the cross-platform GUI toolkit wxWidgets .

If you are playing the current Unreal Engine 3 , the editor comes in a completely new version 4.
