Concha nasalis inferior

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The concha nasalis inferior ( Latin for lower nasal concha ), known in animals as concha nasalis ventralis , is one of the three nasal concha in mammals . It is an independent bone of the viscerocranium and extends from the piriform aperture to the choane . Synonyms are Os conchale and Os conchae nasalis . The inferior turbinate is covered by the nasal mucosa and delimits the lower and middle nasal passages of the nasal cavity .

The lower nasal concha in humans has three small appendages. The maxillary process ( processus maxillaris ) lies in front of the opening of the maxillary sinus . The ethmoid process (ethmoid process ) attaches to the uncinate process of the ethmoid bone and thus further narrows the opening of the maxillary sinus. The lacrimal process ( processus lacrimalis ) points towards the lacrimal bone and together with it forms the inside wall of the tear and nasal canal ( canalis nasolacrimalis ).
