Under market 23

The Bürgerhaus  Untermarkt 23  is a protected cultural monument located on the north side of the Untermarkt . It is an early Renaissance building with a volute gable, built in 1536 .

history

The recognizable reference of the facade to that of Schönhof suggests that the building was also built by Wendel Roskopf . In the 18th century a bakery shop was built. The cultural monument was changed after 1945. An extensive renovation took place in 2000, in the course of which later installations (partition walls and ceilings) were removed and the portal was finally exposed and supplemented.

description

portal

The building, which has a significant impact on the history of the building and the square, has two upper floors (which were modeled on the Schönhof) and two attic floors. The year 1536 is affixed to the consoles on the 1st floor. The facade is richly decorated with pilasters , cornices and window frames. It still shows the original stepped gable, which emphasizes a stronger vertical tendency of the building. This tendency is typical for the bourgeois buildings of this time in Görlitz, but in most cases it has not been preserved until today. Inside, a newly built, modern staircase is built in, which - based on the historical model - connects all the apartment entrances branching off from the hall.
