Ernst-Heinz Lemper

Ernst-Heinz Lemper (born October 6, 1924 in Cologne ; † May 3, 2007 in Görlitz ) was a German art historian , museum director and monument protector . For a long time he was the director of the Görlitz Municipal Art Collection, today's Görlitz Cultural History Museum .

Life

Lemper studied art history in Leipzig from 1946 to 1949 and from 1949 to 1951 until the intermediate diploma examination in architecture at the Technical University of Dresden . In 1950 he received his doctorate and in 1963 his habilitation in art history in Leipzig.

At the end of 1951 he came to Görlitz as director of the municipal art collections, which he remained until his retirement. In addition to working in the art collections, Lemper was also responsible for a large part of the preservation of monuments in Görlitz until 1981 .

From 1990 to 1999 he was president of the re-established Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences , after 1999 he was honorary president of this society. In 1989 he was given honorary citizenship by Görlitz.

Lemper wrote numerous books and essays on art, architecture and culture in Görlitz and Upper Lusatia.

In 1949 Lemper became a member of the Eastern CDU . From 1958 to 1963 he was a member of the Dresden District Assembly for the CDU and a member of the permanent commission for cultural mass work, and then between 1963 and 1967 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR , where he was a member of the committee for culture.
