The Dschungel company was a commando company of the German Wehrmacht in the Soviet Union during World War II .

Combat mission

To support the Eastern Front and the Barbarossa operation , a memorandum planned in 1942 to interrupt the Vorkuta - Kotlas railway line and to bind Soviet troops in Vorkuta by liberating and arming forced laborers.

Teams and planning

The company was based on a proposal from Abwehrkommando 204 to the head of Abwehrgruppe Nord for a long-distance company with the code name "Dschungel" from December 21, 1942. The basis was the completion of the Vorkuta - Kotlas railway in 1941, which was mainly used for war coal Kotlas, Leningrad, the Northern Front and Vologda should transport. This line was also used to transport oil from Ukhta . This should also be prevented. It was planned, a 1 km long, wooden railroad bridge over the Petschowa at Ust-Koshwa destroy. In addition, more extensive sabotage and dismantling orders should be carried out. In particular, prisoners in the Vorkuta forced labor camps were to be freed and armed. These should be incited to looting and murder of the rather weak numbers of guard soldiers. This would have created a danger point behind the front for the Soviet troops, which would have had to be fought by an appropriate number of troops, which the front would then lack.

execution

The aircraft was to take off on February 10, 1943 from the Petrozavodsk airfield in Karelia , with the crew having been equipped to be extremely suitable for winter. The planned team of 12 men, including 2 radio operators, and V-man Nikolajew has been removed as planned. Ultimately, however, the company failed. In the course of the radio communication with the detached commando, consisting of V-men, Dept. II of the Abwehr finally came to the conclusion that the command had been "turned around" and was now working for the opposite side.
