On the way was a magazine that appeared in the GDR from 1957 to 1962 with a circulation of 50,000 to 70,000 copies. It was a hiking , mountaineering , camping, and travel magazine published by the Tourism and Hiking Committee . Those interested ranged from weekend walkers to alpinists , water sports enthusiasts, cyclists and motorcyclists. The individual price per issue was 1 Deutsche Mark from the German Central Bank (DM) . It was available at all kiosks and by subscription through the postal newspaper sales force. The magazine was published by the Junge Welt publishing house in Berlin . With issue 9, the travel magazine ceased to appear after six years.

Each booklet consisted of 48 pages and contained numerous illustrations and photos. For this travel magazine wrote u. a. Fritz Rudolph, Franz Butterlin, Werner Bregula, Ernst Schramm and Karl Mundstock .
