X Terra: Move in the world history is a six-part television documentation and part of the ZDF -Dokumentationsreihe Terra X . In the series, presenter Hape Kerkeling leads the viewer through world history, visiting historical places as they look today, but also slipping into the role of historical personalities, which he depicts in a very humorous way.
background
The production took place over 100 days in 30 different locations around the world. An enormous number of extras were used for television productions. The Faber Courtial company produced the digital reconstructions of the historical places and landscapes .
reception
The reviews of the series were mostly negative. Basically, the narrative is too fast for the story to be properly reproduced. Spiegel Online compared Hape's world history with the television documentary Die Deutschen : While in Die Deutschen 1,200 years happened in 1,500 minutes of broadcast time, "Kerkeling now claims to be complete with 5,000 years of human history with 270 minutes". In a “history best of” only “the hits of civilizational development would be unwound”. As a result, the Süddeutsche Zeitung also criticized : "Despite the effort, pictures and messages don't get stuck."
In addition, the presentation of Kerkeling would be unsuitable overall. Spiegel Online described the series as a “adult education course with travesty deposits”, which “only spreads joke to a limited extent”. The Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote that the “good-humored Kerkeling” led the audience “with friendly naivety through the times, with a humorous smile, but without joke”. In doing so, he is neither concerned with "seriousness", nor "with demonstrating and arousing historical curiosity" and thereby confesses "sympathetically unpretentious historical amateurism".
