The 13 episodes of the adventure documentary produced by Südwestfunk ran on Thursday afternoon programs on Thursdays from January 4, 1979 of German television .

During a 4,000 nautical mile long sailing trip across the Mediterranean, the film team led by Tony Munzlinger and his family visited the sites where the legends of Odysseus - beginning in Troy and ending in Ithaca - are believed to be set. The cinematic travel documentation is juxtaposed with the stories from the Odyssey belonging to the individual locations in short animated sequences by cartoonist Munzlinger, which are highlighted with rhyming texts by SWF editor Anton Zink.
