Upwork is a network for freelancers working in English-speaking countries .

Upwork has twelve million registered professionals and five million registered clients. Every year three million jobs are advertised on the platform. This makes it one of the largest freelance marketplaces worldwide.

history

Upwork was founded 18 months after the announcement of the merger of Elance and oDesk, which happened in December 2013 as Elance-oDesk.

As of March 2017, there were 12 million users in 180 countries, with combined sales of $ 1 billion. Since its inception in 1999, the company has raised $ 168 million in 10 private equity funding rounds.

In October 2018, Upworks CEO Stephane Kasriel stated in an interview with CNBC that Upwork had taken steps to help US freelancers protect themselves from wage dumping by foreign colleagues.
