Architecture and history

The building was built around 1930 as part of Magdeburg's power supply in the immediate vicinity of the then newly built hard coal power station of Mitteldeutsche Kraftwerk Magdeburg AG (MIKRAMAG). The substation includes the preserved switchgear houses for 10  kV and 110 kV. The switchhouses, built from brick in a functional style, are designed as elongated cubic structures. The facades are structured by high slit windows. They are flanked by pillars and crowned with large keystones. The buildings are covered with flat roofs .

The building complex represents a preserved remnant of the large industrial buildings of the 1920s and 1930s. It is considered a document of the functional modernist architecture of the construction period. In terms of urban history, it is a testament to the history of the city's energy supply.

The substation is listed in the local monument register under registration number 094 76734 as a monument .
