Urban Ego was an Austrian rock band founded in 1997 by Richard Ulmer.

In the summer of 1997 Richard Ulmer (singer / songwriter / band leader) founded the band urban ego at the age of 17. In 2000 he produced his first demo EP "The City And I". urban ego achieved 1st place in the FM4 contest and 2nd place in the "VIVA-Act 2000" contest (initiators: BMG and VIVA) in Cologne.
In 2003 the band released their first single "Summer In You" on their own label U5 Records, which Ulmer founded together with his brother. The song "Summer In You", published as a single, made it into the playlist of Ö3 and on the sampler Ö3 Greatest Hits Vol. 23.
The next single "Freezin '" was released in 2004 (U5 Records / Edel Records Austria) and reached the first official chart position in Austria - # 44. In 2005 the album "Something Left Undone" was released together with the 3rd single "Wanted: Reasons" "released in Austria (U5 Records / Sony Music Austria) and Switzerland (U5 Records / Zyx). The song "Wanted: Reasons" not only reached urban ego's highest chart position in Austria - # 21, but was also used as the official promotional song for Chevrolet radio advertising.
After numerous concerts in Austria and Germany, the band finally signed a record deal with Warner Music Germany in 2005. The fourth and final single "Mrs. Brainshaker" was not only released in Austria (U5 Records / Sony Music Austria) and Switzerland (U5 Records / Zyx), but also in Germany (Warner Music Germany). "Mrs. Brainshaker" reached # 58 in the official German sales charts. The video for the single ran on VIVA 2 and MTV Germany. At the end of 2005 the band broke up after separating from their drummer.
The majority of the band went into the group My Excellence in 2006 .
