Urbano García Alonso (born February 13, 1965 in Plasencia , Spain ) is a Spanish journalist .
biography
Urbano García Alonso has a degree in Communication Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid . During his studies, he did an internship with the newspaper “El Periódico de Extremadura” and with the Spanish radio network “COPE” in Cáceres . During the last two years of his studies he worked for “Radiocadena Española” (now “Radio Nacional de España”) in Plasencia.
In May 1989 he took part in selection examinations for the public service of the television network "Televisión Española" (TVE) and was already employed by this in September. At the beginning he worked there as an editor , later also in other areas, including as a moderator . Among other things, he realized news, music, agriculture and sports programs.
In 1991 he was appointed editor-in-chief for news and held this position during that year.
In 1996 he was appointed managing director of "TVE Extremadura" and remained in this position until 2002.
Between 2008 and 2011 he took a break from TVE and started to work at the Canal Extremadura Televisión as head of sport and program planning. He also directed programs such as “Todo DXT” or “Zona Champions”, which he also moderated.
After the phase at the "Canal Extremadura Televisión" he returned to TVE and worked again as a news editor and presenter.
Since October 2012 he has been the managing director of " RTVE Extremadura".
Urbano García Alonso currently resides in Mérida , Spain.

Urbano García Alonso is one of the first journalists from Extremadura to work on television , radio , internet and in the press . Furthermore, he is the only TV journalist in Extremadura who has consistently held important posts, regardless of which political party was currently ruling the country.
