Uroneuralia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uroneuralia are small, paired rods in the caudal fin skeleton of the Teleostei (bony fish i. E. S.). They emerged from severed neural arches of the vertebral bodies and have cartilage precursors in primitive Teleostei. But there are also very similar cover bones (created from sunken, fused scales), the Urodermalia . In practice (e.g. systematics ), however, there is often no distinction between the two.
