Urs Boschung

Urs Boschung (born June 21, 1946 in Bern ) is a Swiss medical historian .

Life

Boschung studied medicine at the University of Bern and received his doctorate in 1973. From 1974 to 1976 he worked as an assistant to Huldrych M. Koelbing at the Medical History Institute of the University of Zurich and 1976/77 with Nikolaus Mani at the Medical History Institute of the University of Bonn . In 1978 he returned to the University of Zurich as curator of the Medical History Collection and research assistant at the Medical History Institute in Koelbing. There he received his habilitation in the history of medicine in 1982. Afterwards he was associate professor and from 1996 full professor for the history of medicine as well as director of the medical history institute (from 2004: the institute for medical history) at the University of Bern. Boschung retired at the end of August 2011.

From 1991 to 2003 he was involved in the Bern Haller research project of the Swiss National Science Foundation .

Boschung has been a member of the Leopoldina learned society since 2001 .
