Ursula von Pfalz-Veldenz-Lützelstein (born February 24, 1572 in Lauterecken , Palatinate; † March 5, 1635 in Nürtingen ) was the daughter of Count Palatine Georg Johann I of Pfalz-Veldenz and later Duchess Ursula von Württemberg.

Life

Ursula was the fourth child of Count Palatine Georg Johann I von Pfalz-Veldenz and his wife Anna Maria Wasa of Sweden. She was only thirteen years old when Duke Ludwig von Württemberg married her secondly. The marriage remained childless. When Ludwig died on August 28, 1593 at the age of 39, Duchess Ursula moved to the widow's residence in Nürtingen . She was only 21 years old at the time. Ursula mourned her husband until the end of her life, so she did not enter into a new marriage.

The Duchess lived in Nürtingen Castle for 42 years. Her life in Nürtingen was shaped and filled with love and care. In particular, she took care of the poor and the sick and, last but not least, of the many war invalids who feared for their meager existence.

After the battle of Nördlingen in 1634, “imperial peoples” also attacked Nürtingen. The dowager duchess had to flee to Esslingen at times. A little later, she died exhausted from the consequences of the war in her looted Nürtingen castle. On January 5, 1636, she was buried in the choir of the collegiate church in Tübingen .
