Uspanteco (also Uspanteko ) is a Maya language with around 3000 speakers in Guatemala and is one of the smaller Maya languages. It is widespread in the Quiché department .
Uspanteco is an SVO language and, like all Maya languages, an ergative language . The Academia de Lenguas Mayas de Guatemala promotes the use of the language. It is written in the Latin script ; less than 1% of first-language speakers and around 16% of second-language speakers can read and write it. In addition, radio programs are broadcast in Uspanteco.
