Uurgaans

Uurgaans was a measure of length in the Netherlands and was considered an hour of the way . It was a mile . The measure survived the introduction of the metric system by royal decree on March 6, 1819, which referred to a law of August 21, 1816. The measure had two different values.

  • 1 Uurgaans = 5565.3297 meters = 5.5653297 kilometers
  • 20 Uurgaans = 1 equatorial degree
Value 2
  • 1 Uurgaans = 1500 Rjnl. Roede / Rute (Rhineland) = 5651.046 meters = 5.651.046 kilometers
  • 19.697 Uurgaans = 1 equatorial degree

The measure was also used as a square measure.

In the East Indian Dutch possessions of Sumatra , the distance there was defined as follows:

  • 1 Paal = 1/3 Uurgaans = 1883.682 meters
