Uwe Kersting

Uwe Gustav Kersting (born August 1,  1964 in Lüdinghausen ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school, which he passed in 1983 in his hometown Lüdinghausen , he studied sport and physics for teaching as well as mathematics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster until 1993 .

From 1993 to 2001 Kersting worked at the Institute for Biomechanics of the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) as a research assistant or later as a research assistant. In 1996 he obtained his doctorate at the DSHS. The topic of his dissertation was "Bony adaptation of the calcaneus to running-induced mechanical stress".

Between 2001 and 2007, Kersting was a professor in the Department of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Auckland in New Zealand  . From 2007 to 2018 he was first assistant professor at Aalborg Universitet in Denmark and then full professor at the Institute for Medicine and Health Technology. In addition, he was research director at the Hammel Neurocenter rehabilitation center in the Danish city of Hammel from 2009 to 2013 and researched at the Mittuniversitetet winter sports research center  in Sweden from 2011 to 2013 .

On October 1, 2018, Kersting took up a professorship for musculoskeletal biomechanics at the Institute for Biomechanics and Orthopedics of the German Sport University Cologne. His research areas include biomechanical issues, performance diagnostics, the adaptation of biological materials, strength and endurance training, and gait analysis.
