Vädersolstavlan

Vädersolstavlan ( Swedish for the side sun painting ) is the oldest known representation of Stockholm . Its origin goes back to an order of the Swedish reformer Olaus Petri . The original from 1535 has not survived , but there is a well-preserved copy by Jacob Heinrich Elbfas from the 1630s, which is on display in the Nikolaikirche in Stockholm .

The picture shows a somewhat realistic representation of the suns and other halo appearances that were observed over Stockholm on April 20, 1535.

The inscription on the frame describes the depicted event in Latin , Swedish and German:
