Vít Rakušan (born June 16, 1978 in Kolín ) is a Czech politician, member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic , Mayor of the city of Kolín and, since April 13, 2019, chairman of the party-like movement Starostové a nezávislí (STAN).

Life

Vít Rakušan studied history, German and school management. Between 2000 and 2015 he was a German teacher at a high school in Kutná Hora . He is married for the second time and has two children.

Political career

Rakušan has been politically active since 2010, when he was elected in local elections in Kolín as a non- party for the electoral group Změna pro Kolín ("Change for Kolín") and was then elected mayor of the city. He presented himself (and the Změna pro Kolín association ) as a counterpoint to the established ODS , which was heavily burdened by corruption scandals shortly before the elections. In 2014 he repeated a success: the electoral community received 63.95 of the votes and Rakušan was confirmed in the office of mayor. He also confirmed this success in the local elections in 2018 with 62.82 percent of the votes (and another re-election as mayor). From 2015 Rakušan has been a member of the Starostové a nezávislí (STAN) movement, from April 2016 Deputy Chairman and from 13 April 2019 Chairman. In April 2019, he announced - not least because of his election as chairman of the STAN - that he would step down from his post as mayor of Kolín on June 24, 2019.

Since 2017, Rakušan has also been a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic for the STAN movement.
