Věra Kohnová

Věra Kohnová (born June 26, 1929 in Pilsen , Czechoslovakia , † 1942 ) was a Jewish girl from Czechoslovakia who wrote a diary about her feelings and the events during the occupation by the National Socialists .

Věra was the daughter of Otakar Kohn, who worked as a secretary in the Teller company. At the age of twelve she wrote her diary about the fate of the Jews during this period, but mainly about her personal feelings. She had to study at home because all schools were closed to Jews. The last entry in her diary reads:

“We're only here tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, who knows what will be next. Goodbye, my diary! "

On January 22, 1942, Věra was in Transport S to the Theresienstadt concentration camp . The last note about her is dated March 11, 1942, when she left Theresienstadt on Transport Aa to the Izbica ghetto , an interim camp for other death camps. She and her family did not survive. Marie Kalivodová and Miroslav Matouš hid the diary for 65 years.
