history

In 1949 the state-owned company VEB Dauermilchwerke Stendal was established. The location was a bombed-out and completely burned-out ruin south of the city outside the old fortification belt. In the course of the gradual establishment and development of the company, the production of technical lactose for penicillin production was started. In 1953 the company started processing eggs .

By manufacturing powdered milk , milk sugar and powdered egg products , the company developed into the largest and most modern permanent milk factory in the GDR . It was regarded as the center of infant nutrition and the largest export company in the milk processing industry in the GDR.

In 1964 the VEB Dauermilchwerke Stendal employed 368 people, one third of whom were women. The production of goods could be increased from 515,000 MDN in 1951 to 12,885,000 MDN in 1964.

In 1965, almost a billion liters of milk were processed into long-life milk products in the company every year .

In 1991 it was renamed Milchwerke Mittelelbe GmbH and taken over by the Krüger Group.
