The VEB Polytechnic was a state-owned enterprise in Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz . In the GDR , the company was mainly known for the production of daylight projectors , called Polylux , student experimentation devices (SÜG Elektrik III, SEG-HH) for physics lessons and the Polycomputer 880 learning computer .

The company was founded in 1870 under the name drawing judge and manufactured writing accessories. In 1874 the founder Emil Oskar Richter invented the zero circle . In the late 1960s, after taking over the Phylatex physics equipment factory in Frankenberg / Sa. under the name VEB Polytechnik its production focus on daylight projectors. After German reunification , the remainder of the company was transferred to Polytechnik Frankenberg GmbH .

The VEB also manufactured the Polyplay , the only arcade machine that was produced in the GDR.

In 2006 the Polytechnik Frankenberg company was also closed.
