VFX producer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The VFX Producer is the project manager for game, film or television productions who is responsible for creating the visual effects . This requires knowledge of film and video technology, computer graphics , business administration , labor law , workflows , organization and project management , team management and dealing with customers, as well as problem and conflict resolution-oriented and networked thinking.

The clients for VFX Producer are usually film production companies or service providers for VFX. The VFX Producer usually oversees production during preproduction through to shooting and post- production .

His tasks here are the creation of VFX breakdowns, i.e. the list of all effects in a film, their calculation and timing, as well as distribution, monitoring, coordination and approval of all subtasks, budgets and deadlines during production in order to guarantee the desired quality. In contrast to the VFX Supervisor , the producer works more commercially / organizationally than creatively, but often enough for budget or time reasons must make decisions that can have a creative effect and bring them into harmony with the desired quality.

Abroad, especially in the USA, the close involvement of a VFX producer in the production is almost a matter of course during the creation of the script in order to minimize friction losses during production, which can have a negative impact on quality, budget or schedule. In Germany, on the other hand, the importance of organization in this area of production is still largely underestimated and, given the low budget, savings are often made on the VFX producer. The VFX Supervisor usually takes on the tasks in addition to his or her VFX Producer also takes on the VFX supervision, i.e. also takes on creative tasks and represents the film production during the shoot on the set.
