RAILab or Railab refers to a type of track measuring vehicle used by Deutsche Bahn for measuring track geometry. RAILab represents R ollendes- A nalyse- and I nspektions- Lab or.

commitment

At a maximum speed of 200 km / h, the vehicles measure the essential parameters of the inner track geometry ( track width , mutual height, torsion, horizontal and vertical alignment (direction and longitudinal height) of the two rails). The measurement results are obtained by optical probing of the rail body and referencing on a high-precision inertial platform . The achieved measurement uncertainty of the RAILab is less than one millimeter for track position errors with a length in the direction of travel of less than 1 m up to 300 m.

vehicles

Deutsche Bahn currently has two Railab, each accommodated in two cars (one of which is a control car). Since the computer and measurement technology used in the first Railab required a relatively large amount of space, the technology had to be distributed over two cars, now one car is sufficient. In the others, additional measurement technology, for example for influencing the line train , was installed.

A Railab does not have its own drive, but is powered by a color-coordinated locomotive . The Railab sets operate under catenary with three-phase AC locomotives of the DB class 120 , which allow operation at 200 km / h, the class 182 (182 506) or with the DB class 111 at up to 160 km / h. On non-electrified lines is a diesel locomotive of the DB Class 218 used.

The power supply of the measuring components can also be provided without a traction vehicle by its own generator independently of the train busbar .

In December 2006, a set received a control car specially converted from an Interregio car . This means that the train can also be pushed at speeds of up to 200 km / h (previously 140 km / h) as well as guided by LZB. It is being examined whether the measurement technology can be supplemented by video recording of the tracks and a pantograph on the locomotives.
