VOXID is an a cappella quintet founded in Leipzig in 2006 . The formation performed under the name tonalrausch from May 2006 to November 2015 and won several international prizes.

history

VOXID was founded under the previous name tonalrausch in 2006 in Leipzig. The mixed vocal quintet played numerous concerts in the first few years, especially in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Asia and the Netherlands.

The group's arrangements arose from their own handwriting right from the start and, together with the constellation of characters in the group, formed an essential part of their success. In the beginning it was mainly co-founder Matthias Knoche who arranged the repertoire of jazz standards and pop songs, later the founding member Daniel Barke more and more . Tenor Friedrich Rau, who later joined the group, and tenor Gabriel Fuhrmann also contributed arrangements and compositions to the ensemble's musical oeuvre.

Numerous guest appearances at international festivals followed and, for the first time, concert tours to Belgium, Italy and Hungary. On the second of a total of three Taiwan tours (2009, 2011 and 2015) the ensemble played in front of 23,000 people at the Taichung Jazz Festival. In February 2015, the soprano Maike Lindemann joined the group and the foundation stone for a name change to VOXID on December 1, 2015 was laid in connection with a musical realignment.

In spring 2019 the video for the single "Music Ain't My Thing" from the album "SHADES OF LIGHT" by the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America will be awarded two first prizes as "Best Video by a Professional Group" with "Outstanding Video Editing" chosen. The tenor Friedrich Rau will be replaced by Joachim Rust, who as a producer and songwriter from Bückeburg also enriches the ensemble in terms of composition. At the Aarhus Vocal Festival (DK), VOXID received a 2nd prize in the Vocal Groups category that same year.

style

The VOXID repertoire is broad. First and foremost, it contains original English-language compositions in related styles such as pop , R&B , soul and hip-hop . At first they sang their own arrangements of jazz standards under the name tonalrausch until they began to develop their own new musical language with their own compositions (especially by Daniel Barke and Gabriel Fuhrmann).
