The BDhe 4/4 5 , as Füfi referred to is a gear - electric railcars of Vitznau-Rigi Railway ( VRB ).

In the 1950s, the rush on the Rigi was so great that the VRB had to use their old steam locomotives again because the Bhe 2/4 could no longer shoulder the traffic. The steam locomotive operation was seen as uneconomical and no longer up-to-date, which is why a new railcar was required. The BDhe 4/4 was built in 1964 and included in the numbering scheme as railcar no.

The front sections are rounded and slightly inclined, which should give the railcar a modern look. In contrast to the older railcars, the BDhe 4/4 has a triple headlights and the coat of arms of the Canton of Lucerne . At the front on the mountain side there is a transition door for technically enabled operation with a control car , which was never built. In order to be able to accomplish the planned six to eight ascents and descents with little turning time, both bogies, each with a slip clutch , are driven.

The BDhe 4/4 does not have a recuperation brake that could feed the current back into the overhead line , which is why the pantograph can be lowered when traveling downhill .
