history

The bank was founded on December 5, 1857. First balance was 631 guilders, 18 cruisers, 630 guilders loans and 50 members. On May 4, 1871, the commercial bank was entered in the commercial register, cooperative register no. On April 17, 1890, the commercial bank was entered as an eGmbH in the cooperative register of the district court of Schwäbisch Hall. The commercial bank acquired its first business premises in 1897 when the “Gasthof zur Traube” at Marktstrasse 17 in Schwäbisch Hall was acquired for 64,500 German marks. On October 9, 1897, business began in the new own premises. With effect from January 14, 1901, the bank was appointed the agency of the Württembergische central bank and was thus also available to non-members for dealings with the central bank. In March 1940 the commercial bank changed its name to Volksbank. In 1957 the bank had 1,248 members and total assets of DM 8.8 million.

The first merger with another bank took place in 1968 when Volksbank Schwäbisch Hall merged with Volksbank Gaildorf, the Stuttgart data center of the Württemberg cooperatives. In 1980 the Volksbank Schwäbisch Hall merged with the Gelderingen / Eltershofen cooperative bank, in 1991 with the Michelbach cooperative bank and the Raiffeisenbank Untermünkheim, in 1992 with the Sulzdorfer Bank and the Raiffeisenbank Braunsbach and in 1999 with the Raiffeisenbank Michelfeld-Biberstal and the Raiffeisenbank Mainhardter Wald. In 1999 Volksbank Schwäbisch Hall changed its name to Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Schwäbisch Hall, before it was renamed VR Bank Schwäbisch Hall in 2002 and merged with Limpurger Bank.

In 2007 the bank had total assets of EUR 938 million and deposits of EUR 743 million with 32,000 members. It received its current company name in 2009 when it merged with Volksbank Crailsheim.
