The va-Q-tec AG , based in Würzburg is a provider of vacuum insulation panels and thermal Engergiespeicherkomponenten and thermal boxes and containers for transporting temperature-sensitive goods.

Va-Q-tec employs around 450 people worldwide and, in addition to Würzburg, has a second production site in Kölleda . There are other subsidiaries of va-Q-tec in Switzerland, Great Britain, Korea, USA, Japan, Uruguay and Singapore.

The shares of va-Q-tec AG have been listed in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since September 30, 2016 .

history

Va-Q-tec was founded in 2001 as a spin-off from the Center for Applied Energy Research eV (ZAE Bayern) in Würzburg. The chairman of the board, Joachim Kuhn, and the board member for development, Roland Caps, worked together on the research and development of new types of insulation.

To this day, the development and use of energy-saving and environmentally friendly vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) is the main field of activity of va-Q-tec.

When va-Q-tec went public on September 30, 2016, around 6.7 million shares were allocated. The issue price was 12.30 euros per share, the issue volume was 82.9 million euros.

Products

Va-Q-tec's range is divided into products, systems and services.

As products, va-Q-tec develops, produces and sells vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) for insulation as well as thermal energy storage components, which are known as phase change materials (PCM). These products are the basis for all systems and services from va-Q-tec.

Thermal packaging systems are manufactured by va-Q-tec by combining VIPs and PCMs. These boxes and containers are used for reliable and energy-efficient passive temperature control and can keep the temperature inside constant for several days without external energy.

In the area of services, va-Q-tec offers the rental of pre-conditioned boxes and containers, mainly for pharmaceutical and biotech transport. In order to guarantee optimal availability, va-Q-tec currently has a fleet of 2,200 rental containers and several thousand boxes.

Areas of application

  • Healthcare & logistics: for example, sales and rental of containers and boxes for the transport of temperature-sensitive goods (e.g. pharmaceuticals).
  • Equipment & food: for example, sales of VIPs for the insulation of refrigerators / freezers and trays for temperature-controlled food transport.
  • Technology & Industry: for example, sales of VIPs to increase energy efficiency in various industrial devices such as hot water storage tanks, pipes, laboratory equipment and low-temperature refrigerators.
  • Construction: for example, sales of VIPs to the building insulation for new buildings or renovations.
  • Mobility: for example, selling VIPs to insulate refrigerated vehicles, cars, trains and planes.

Additional information

Va-Q-tec uses the basic principle of vacuum insulation for its products, as it is also used, for example, in thermos flasks to keep drinks hot. This well-known type of insulation was carried over by the company to vacuum insulation panels (VIPs), which are used in various industries and products.

The boxes and containers from va-Q-tec enable temperature-stable transport over several days without the need for additional cooling units and thus additional energy consumption. The panels, which are mainly filled with silica and in which a vacuum is created, insulate around 10 times better than conventional insulation materials made of expanded polystyrene ( Styrofoam ) with the same thickness .
