Vacinuff Morrison

Vacinuff "Vass" Morrison (born May 19, 1952 ) is a former British judoka . He was fifth in the Olympics in 1976 and third in the European Championship in 1973.

Athletic career

The 1.74 m tall Vacinuff Morrison fought until 1976 in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 70 kilograms. At the European Championships in Madrid in 1973 , he defeated the West German Rudolf Sanner in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals, Morrison lost to Dietmar Hötger from the GDR. With a win over Poland's Wacław Czarnecki, Morrison won a bronze medal. At the 1973 World Championships in Lausanne, Morrison was eliminated in the round of 16 against the French Patrick Vial .

In 1976 Morrison won the British Open. At the Olympic Games in Montreal , Morrison defeated the Bulgarian Georgi Georgiev in the second round and was defeated by the Japanese Kōji Kuramoto in the quarter-finals . After a victory in the hope round against the Spaniard Juan Carlos Rodríguez, he lost in the battle for bronze Patrick Vial.

After the Olympic Games, Morrison rose to middleweight, the weight class up to 78 kilograms. Here he won the British Trials in late 1976 and the British Open in 1977.
