Patrick Vial
Patrick Lucien Vial (born December 24, 1946 in Paris ) is a former French judoka . He was an Olympic Knight in 1976.
The 1.70 m tall vial fought in the weight class up to 70 kilograms until 1976. Vial won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Ostend in 1969. In 1970 he won his first French championship title, followed by three more titles in 1972, 1973 and 1976. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he won his first two fights and then retired against Antoni Zajkowski from Poland . At the Judo World Championships in 1973 , Vial finished fifth after defeats against the Japanese Kazuo Yoshimura and Dietmar Hötger from the GDR. Vial was also fifth at the European Championships in 1976. In his second Olympic participation in 1976 in Montreal , he won his first two fights and was defeated in the semifinals by the Japanese Kōji Kuramoto . In the battle for the bronze medal, Vial defeated the British Vacinuff Morrison .
In 1977 he fought after the reorganization of the lightweight classes up to 71 kilograms. This year he was second again in the French championships.
