Antoni Zajkowski

Antoni Zajkowski (born August 5, 1948 in Maleczewo ) is a former Polish judoka . He won an Olympic silver medal in the light middleweight division in 1972.

The 1.70 m tall Antoni Zajkowski, who competed for AZS Warsaw , won the silver medal behind the Soviet judoka David Rudman at the European Championships in 1969 in Ostend . In 1970 he won his first Polish championship title. At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 1971 he received the silver medal like two years earlier after losing the final against Rudolf Hendel from the GDR. At the World Championships in Ludwigshafen he lost in the semifinals to a Japanese, in the battle for bronze he won against the French Christian Desmet .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he lost after three wins in the preliminary round against the Japanese Toyokazu Nomura . In the consolation round he defeated the Hungarian Antal Hetényi and then defeated Dietmar Hötger in the fight for the final. In the final, Zajkowski met Nomura again, after 27 seconds Nomura was Olympic champion.

1973 Zajkowski won the Tournoi de Paris. In 1973 and 1974, like 1970, he was Polish champion. In 1975 he won the bronze medal at the European team championships with the Polish team. After losing to Marian Tałaj in the final of the Polish championships in 1976 and he went to the Olympic Games in Montreal, Zajkowski ended his international career.
