Marian Tałaj (born December 22, 1950 in Koszalin ) is a former Polish judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in the light middleweight division in 1976.

Marian Tałaj, who was 1.70 m tall for Gwardia Koszalin , was 1968 European youth champion in the weight class up to 58 kg. From 1970 to 1976 he mostly competed in the light middleweight class up to 70 kg. After the reorganization of the weight classes, it started in 1977 in the lightweight up to 71 kg.

At the European Championships in 1972 Tałaj won the bronze medal in the light middleweight division. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Antoni Zajkowski competed for Poland in this weight class . Tałaj started in Munich in the weight class up to 63 kg and won his first two fights, but then retired against the Cuban Héctor Rodríguez and took eleventh place. In 1974 Tałaj won the bronze medal at the student world championships. At the World Championships in Vienna in 1975 he was defeated in the semifinals against the Soviet judoka Valeri Dwoinikow and then lost the battle for bronze against the Japanese Katsunori Akimoto .

In 1976 Tałaj won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Kiev. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal he was defeated in his first fight against the later Olympic champion Valeri Newsorow from the Soviet Union, but then won all three fights in the hope round and received the bronze medal. In 1977 Newsorow and Tałaj met at the European Championships in Ludwigshafen in the lightweight final, Newsorow won gold and Tałaj silver.

Until 1981 Tałaj was still successful at Polish championships, but won no more international medals.
