Valentin (Pope)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Valentin († September 16, 827 ) was briefly Pope in 827 .

He was born in Rome and probably grew up in the Via Lata district. The Liber Pontificalis emphasizes how pious and upright Valentin was and that this is why Pope Paschal I appointed him as a young priest archdeacon of the Roman diaconate . He retained this influential position under Eugene II. After his death (August 27, 827), Valentin was elected unanimously as the new Pope on the following Sunday. Nothing is known about his short term of office, not even the exact duration. It is probably around a month.
