Valentin Blaschitz

Valentin Blaschitz (born January 2, 1952 in Waisenberg ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ), agricultural skilled worker and skilled worker as well as bank and community employees. From 1984 to 1986 he was a member of the Federal Council and from 1986 to 1991 a member of the Carinthian state parliament . From 1991 to 2020 he was mayor of the municipality of Völkermarkt .

education and profession

Blaschitz attended elementary school in St. Georgen from 1958 to 1962 and then switched to secondary school in Völkermarkt from 1962 to 1966. From 1966 to 1967 he also completed the polytechnic course in Völkermarkt and then continued his education from 1967 to 1969 at the Völkermarkt agricultural vocational school. In addition, he completed the Agricultural College Goldbrunnhof from 1969 to 1971 and in 1971 the military service . Blaschitz worked as a skilled agricultural worker in his parents' business and worked from 1972 to 1975 as a bank clerk at Raiffeisenkasse Waisenberg. In 1976 he joined the school community association Völkermarkt, where he was employed as a clerk from 1976 to 1987. Since 1987 Blaschitz has been on leave due to his political activities.

Politics and functions

Blaschitz began his political career in local politics, where he was elected on March 25, 1979 to the council of the municipality of Völkermarkt. On March 17, 1985, he took over the function of a member of the city council and that of financial officer and rose to the position of deputy mayor on September 25, 1985. On April 15, 1991 he was elected mayor of the municipality of Völkermarkt. Since then, Blaschitz has steered the fortunes of his home community as mayor, with his party, the SPÖ, in the last local council election in Völkermarkt in 2009, with 43.1%, a minus of -12.9%. Blaschitz was also a member of the Austrian Federal Council from October 30, 1984 to December 18, 1986, and on December 18, 1986 he succeeded Anton Leika in the Carinthian state parliament. He was a member of the Carinthian state parliament with an interruption of around one month until April 25, 1991. Within the party, Blaschitz acted as local party chairman of the SPÖ Waisenberg from 1980, and in 1987 he was elected district party chairman deputy of the SPÖ Völkermarkt. He is also city party chairman of the SPÖ Völkermarkt.
