Valentin Wegmann

Valentin Michael Wegmann (born May 2, 1979 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss basketball player .

career

Wegmann took part in several B-European championships with the Swiss national team. At the 2009 edition, the 1.92-meter-tall builder and winger was the fifth-best scorer in the national team with an average of 8.1 points per match.

At club level he played from 1994 to 1999 at BC KZO Wetzikon, where he played for the first time in the National League A at the age of 19 , then from 1999 to 2004 at Friborg Olympic , between 2004 and 2008 at BBC Monthey and in the 2009/10 season the Starwings Basel . He ended his career in June 2010. In 2005 Wegmann won the Swiss championship with Monthey, he was cup winner with Monthey in 2006 and with Basel in 2010. In 2009 he won the league cup with Friborg. Following the championship year 2004/05 with Monthey, Wegmann was named Swiss Player of the Year in the National League. He was also the best local scorer in the league that year.

Shortly after his resignation as a player, Wegmann took over the post of delegate of the national team at the Swiss Basketball Federation in autumn 2010.
